Rooting Your Identity In Christ, Not Lies From The Enemy

Author : Kaitlin Haines

The same God who created the mountains, the oceans, and the stars created YOU.

I don’t know about you, but so often I find myself slipping out of my identity in Christ, into the identity that my sinful flesh wants me to believe. This usually happens after a failure that I just simply cannot let go or forgive myself for, a lack of spending time with Jesus, or someone using words that attack my insecurities and in turn, trigger a false identity.

A false identity not found in Christ is usually rooted in a lie from the enemy.

This lie can sound something like:

“I am not good enough.”

“I am not valuable.”

“I am not loved.”

“No one needs me.”

“No one cares about me.”

And many more.

But the truth is, you ARE full of worth, valuable, loved, needed, cared for, and so much more. And it’s all because of a Savior who saw fit to take on your sin and nail it to a cross, redeeming you as holy, righteous, blameless, and full of deep purpose in Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

You are a new creation in Christ Jesus. And the beautiful part about that is that when God looks at you, he doesn’t see your flaws, your sin, your ugliness. When you walk in repentance by the power of the Holy Spirit, he sees you as His daughter.

DAUGHTER

You see, Jesus took on your debt so that in giving your life to Him, God would only see His son when he looks at you. We take on the sonship of Christ as His daughters when we choose to have faith in Him and live in relationship with Him. And that is quite possibly the most beautiful picture of how loved we truly are.

As he molds us and sanctifies us throughout our lives, he makes us look more and more like himself. We are never perfect on this side of heaven, but because of what Jesus did, He sees us so much differently than we see ourselves.

So, friend. When those lies pop up in the back of your mind, telling you that you aren’t good enough, loved, strong enough, worthy, cared about, understood, without purpose–here is the truth from scripture:

He breathed life into you for a PURPOSE. (Romans 12:11-2)

You are loved. (John 3:16)

You are chosen. (1 Peter 2:9)

You are cherished. (1 John 3:1)

You are a masterpiece. (Ephesians 2:10)

You are beautiful. (Psalm 139:14)

You are valuable. (Luke 12:6-7)

You are cared for. (Matthew 6:26)

You are an image bearer. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

You are seen. (Genesis 16:13)

You are adopted. (Ephesians 1:5)

You are called. (Romans 8:28)

You are known. (Psalm 139:1-2)

And you were made for so much more than you could ever imagine.

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18-19a

Live from the confidence that Christ in you IS your identity. Nothing can separate you from Him or snatch you out of His hand. And He is daily renewing you to look like Himself. So as you mess up, your insecurities surface, or you find yourself believing a lie that the enemy has planted in your mind, remember these scriptures. Remember your identity in Christ.

YOU ARE HIS.

You are His Daughter—royalty—standing on the power and divine nature of the Holy Spirit. And no one or nothing can take that away from you.
