You Can’t Do It Alone—And That’s the Point

Author : Maddie Turner

For the dreamers who feel overwhelmed, underqualified, or just plain tired—this one’s for you. If God’s put something on your heart that feels too big to carry, maybe it’s because you were never meant to carry it alone.

The Space Between “What Is” and “What Could Be”

There’s something sacred about the space between what is and what could be—that gap between who you are today and who you sense God is calling you to become.

Maybe you’ve felt it: a stirring in your spirit, a dream too big for your own strength. It lingers in quiet moments—while you’re folding laundry, rocking a baby to sleep, walking through Target on autopilot. It’s subtle, but sure. A whisper that says, There’s more.

But then reality hits.

You feel the weight of it. The size of it.
You start to think, This might be too much for me.

And honestly? It probably is.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not from God.
It just means you were never meant to do it without Him.

Dreams That Stretch You

God has a way of planting dreams that don’t fit neatly inside our timelines, comfort zones, or bank accounts. It’s almost like He designs them that way—so we’re forced to walk by faith and not by sight.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Proverbs 16:9

We plan. We envision. We organize. And all that is good.
But when the Lord breathes on something, it becomes more than a project—it becomes purpose.

And purpose will always stretch you.
It will call you beyond what you can control, beyond what you can carry alone. And that’s not cruel—it’s intentional. Because in the stretching, you’re invited into something so much better than self-sufficiency: dependency on Jesus.

You Were Never Supposed to Be Enough

Culture says, “You’ve got this. You are enough.”
But Jesus says,

“Apart from me, you can do nothing.”
John 15:5

At first glance, that might sound defeating.
But really, it’s freeing.

It means we can stop pretending. Stop hustling to prove ourselves.
Stop carrying pressure that was never ours to bear.

Jesus isn’t asking us to be everything—He’s asking us to stay close. To abide.
To trust that His strength really is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

You don’t need to be enough.
You just need to be connected to the One who is.

When the Dream Feels Out of Reach

If you’re sitting with a dream that feels impossible—you’re not crazy.
You’re not dramatic.
You’re not aiming too high.

You might actually be hearing from God.

He specializes in the impossible.

Moses didn’t part the Red Sea—God did.
David didn’t take down Goliath because of skill—he showed up with faith and five stones.
Mary didn’t understand how she could carry the Messiah—she just said yes.

So if you’re looking at what’s in front of you and thinking, I have no idea how this is going to work, that might be the most honest, holy place to begin.

Because that’s exactly where God meets you.

“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.”
Psalm 138:8

He will fulfill it.
Not you. Not your resume. Not your five-year plan.
Him.

Learning to Abide

Abiding is less about adding another religious activity to your to‑do list, and more about practicing dependence:

  • Pray first. Plan second.
Before you jump into strategy, pause. Ask God to shape the dream. Let Him speak first.

  • Hold the dream loosely, but believe boldly.
Surrender isn’t giving up—it’s giving back. Trust Him with the process and the pace.

  • Stop measuring your ability and start trusting His.
He is not limited by your weakness. He often chooses it on purpose.

  • Surround yourself with people who will remind you of truth.
Don’t do this alone. The enemy loves isolated dreamers. Stay rooted in community.

Let God Get the Glory

Here’s the beautiful thing: when it finally happens—when the dream starts to bloom—it won’t be because you forced it into existence. It’ll be because God was faithful.

And you’ll know it.
Everyone watching will know it too.
Because the fingerprints on it will be His.

So take the next step. Even if it’s small. Even if it’s shaky.

You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You just need to stay close to the One who already does.

This dream?
It’s not too big for Him.
And neither are you.
